Au milieu des années cinquante, la troupe de théâtre amateur les Apprentis-Sorciers (1955-1968) a été la première à présenter au public montréalais certains auteurs d’avant-garde devenus depuis des classiques : Beckett, Brecht, Ionesco... Dans l’effervescence de la Révolution tranquille, les Apprentis-Sorciers ont ainsi ouvert une fenêtre sur la modernité -- une expérience d’une dizaine d’années seulement, mais qui s’est révélée extrêmement fructueuse.
